Are you thinking of starting a career as a freelance writer? Or perhaps you are finally ready to get working on that novel that has been brewing inside your head for years? If you are ready to finally take the plunge, or perhaps are still wavering on the edge, it’s good to know that there are many great reasons why becoming a writer is a fantastic career choice, and here they are...

It’s creative

Having an outlet for your creativity is so important, and if you feel as though becoming a writer might be the right choice for you, the chances are that writing is the perfect vehicle to express your creativity. When you write you can let you imagination run wild. You can create worlds where anything is possible, you can vent your anger, frustration or love for the world, and just let it all out. In fact, there is plenty of research to suggest that creative people are in fact less-stressed, more productive, and happier overall. So what are you waiting for?!

You can earn big bucks

So you might not write the next best seller, or land a gig as a high paid journalist. But then again you just might. There is no reason, if you are passionate and hardworking, that you can’t make writing your full-time career, and make a decent living whilst you're at it. If you want to become a freelance writer, there are now so many opportunities to land work, and if you are willing to take your time and build up a good portfolio, then you can start pitching for the highest paid jobs. If you are a creative writer, then it is perhaps more difficult. but with the rise of self-publishing then you know that you can, at least, get your work out there, and if you market it, and yourself well, you should see sales increase.

Your time is yours

Writing isn’t a 9-5 role. Sure there are times where you might wake up in the middle of the night itching to get an idea down. Similarly, however, you can manage your own time just the way you want to. You don’t have to wait for someone to tell you when you can start and finish work, and you can do it from absolutely anywhere in the world. To have the freedom to go anywhere, and work when it suits you, is something that so many people crave.

You become immortal

Without getting to super villain / hero (delete as appropriate) on you, there is a huge sense of satisfaction in knowing that your writing will always be there. People could be reading your work for years and years to come, who knows, perhaps you will become the next Shakespeare! The point is, that however successful you are, once your writing is out there, in print, nobody can take that way from you, et voila, you live forever!

You are fulfilling your dream

If you have always toyed with the idea of becoming a writer but haven’t had the nerve to give up your day job to really focus on it, then now is the time to just go for it. Writing is exciting, satisfying and rewarding. Sure there are uphill struggles, and days where sitting down and ‘putting pen to paper’ can feel like a huge challenge. You may have to deal with rejections, disappointments and less earnings than you had hoped for initially, but at least you can say you are following your passion, that you are listening to your inner self and doing what you have always dreamt of, and what can be better than that?

With these reasons in mind you should be inspired to start your writing career. With determination, dedication and, perhaps a bit of luck, it could be the best decision you have ever made.
