There I was sitting in the theater with my wife as we prepared to see a movie starring Denzel Washington. The year was 2003. The movie was Out of Time.
If you’ve seen the movie then you may already agree how awesome it was. (or wasn’t depending on your taste).
But during the movie, I found myself literally gripping my seat moment after moment as the story built. It was gut wrenching to say the least and I thought I was going to lose it!
It’s funny now thinking about it, but I was literally praying in my mind for Denzel to not to get caught. And this was only a movie!
Every twist, every turn, plot, subplot, all came together seamlessly in my opinion right up to the climax and resolution of the movie which ended with things working out in Denzel’s favor.
Whew! I breathed a sigh of relief, but my blood pressure and heart rate probably spiked through the roof and into another stratosphere.
And I’ve never forgotten that experience.
NEVER.
Why am I sharing that with you? Because it’s this same experience that you need to create in your own personal novels.
But the steps to creating those experiences are almost like trying to thread a 2,000 pound elephant through a one car garage at your house. Sure, it can be done, but the steps to doing so are so detailed and intricate that unless you get them just right - you’re sure to make a mess or cause a ton of destruction.
But the good news is, I’ve already trained the ‘beast’ on how to line up perfectly in my books. I know how to create these types of plots that suck in readers like a vacuum on steroids.
And I’d like to share my success tactic and secret methods with you today.
